World Class Sports Campus in Phuket Announces Tennis Alliance With PBI
PHUKET, THAILAND - Thanyapura, Phuket's unrivaled sports campus for all is pleased to announce the launch of an exciting tennis partnership with the world's leading professional tennis management group, Peter Burwash International (PBI).
On Thanyapura’s 23 tropically landscaped hectares (140 rai) among the lush mountain interior of north Phuket, Thanyapura Sports & Leisure Club’s world class Tennis Facility features six ‘Plexicushion’ competition standard tennis courts, the only in the region. The Plexicushion system is an official Grand Slam surface used at the Australian Open. It combines a consistent bounce and sure footing with an innovative rubber cushioning to reduce fatigue on players’ legs, ankles and feet thus extending the orthopedic life of players. Four of the courts are covered by a high roof, using an innovative material that lets in light but only minimal heat, creating a light, airy and cool environment in all weather conditions. All TSLC courts are lit for night play. Facilities also include luxury male and female locker rooms, a 600-seat shaded grandstand allowing spectators to view all courts, against the picturesque backdrop of the national park.
PBI has achieved its position as market leader by providing an extensive range of social and training tennis activities including Junior Tennis Clinics, Ladies Mornings and evening social programmes. PBI provides one-to-one coaching for beginners up to elite level players.
PBI’s representative Travis Bertram joins TSLC as Tennis Director, bringing his considerable experience in club, junior, and elite level coaching to the Thanyapura community. Bertram’s previous roles include Coaching Director at the esteemed Willingdon Sports Club in Mumbai, India where his responsibilities included daily tennis camps, clinics and training for the club’s advanced junior players including video analysis, strategies for singles and doubles play as well as exercises for stretching, strength and endurance. Prior to this posting, Bertram served as PBI Director of Tennis at The Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay in California, a recipient of the AAA Five Diamond Award and rated one of Tennis Magazine’s Top 50 Tennis Resorts.
Under Coach Bertram, the TSLC tennis programme for Summer 2011 will include ladies’ tennis mornings, children’s training camps and evening clinics. A full schedule of the PBI tennis programme at TSLC can be found on the Thanyapura website (www.thanyapura.com).
In the near future, TSLC’s Tennis Center will host regional and international tournaments. Thanyapura will welcome teams from around the world coming to practice their skills on these courts as well as visiting regional tennis clubs seeking a weekend away.
